Performance and Earth Day Eco-Arts Gathering,

FRIDAY, APRIL 20 – 5:30-9:00 p.m.

Created and performed Elizabeth Doud and directed by Giovanni Luquini, The Mermaid Tear Factory is a mobile mermaid sea garbage performance and exploration of the mermaid myth.  From atop a trashy throne pulled by a bicycle, a contemporary mermaid, protests pollution, teaches diction, dances and conquers the hearts of humans, while selling them a magic potion: her tears.

This performance is part of the Miami Beach Botanical Garden's Earth Day celebration.  Starting at 5:30 p.m., visitors can join a yoga class on the lawn, roam the gardens and also see the eco-artistry of Matt Stone and Colin Frood on exhibit.  Food and drinks available and event free and open to the public.

Earth Day events on Friday at Miami Beach Botanical Garden, 2000 Convention Center Dr., Miami Beach, FL 33139.  The Sunday performance of the Mermaid Tear Factory is along Lincoln Road on Miami Beach from 5-6:30 p.m.

Las Áñez in Concert,

SATURDAY, APRIL 21- 8:00 p.m.

Las Áñez’s (Bogotá, Colombia) combination of folklore and contemporary music has captivated and beguiled audiences from South America and Europe, and this evening marks their debut performance in North America.  On stage, Las Áñez fill every corner with their resonant medium, carrying listeners into a hypnotic and resounding ritual. The natural and versatile sound of this vocal duet is surprisingly minimalistic and bewitchingly joyous, and represents a sacred bond between ancestral traditions and the future of our world.

ZENÚ by Claudio Marcotulli, Saturday - 8 p.m.

Filmed in large part from a canoe on and along Miami’s Little River, Zenú takes viewers on an artist’s surreal journey to find his muse in a world of interrupted wilderness and shamanic dreams. This compact magical realist film is filled with lush ritual and ludicrous performance, which stir up surprising human-nature relationships and uncork anxieties about creative destinies. This Miami-made short features appearances by a crowd of celebrated local artists.

Miami-Dade County Auditorium.  Screening immediately precedes the Las Áñez concert and admission is included in evening 's ticket price.
